Drawing

Observational Drawing Skills

For people who wish to draw what they see. It begins with the use of line and progresses through to developed tonal work in pencil, charcoal and pen with ink. It introduces the tricks and devices of illusional drawing and focuses on developing both clarity and control in the drawing process.

The Human Figure

Uses the fundamentals of drawing and develops skills needed to depict the human figure. The structure, form and volume of the figure will be observed and drawn in a variety of poses and environments.

Painting

Painting 1

Uses basic painting media and equipment, techniques and methods of painting and the fundamentals of visual elements including knowledge and use of colour.

Introductory Watercolour

 Aims to develop skills in the use of equipment and techniques associated with the medium of watercolour. It focuses on using the elements of picture making to produce creative art works.

Expressive Watercolour

Is designed to explore the creative potential of watercolours. This subject encourages you to take risks, turn mistakes to your advantage and develop an expressive approach to this daring painting medium.

Portaiture

Explores the techniques and principles of portrait painting for both beginners and experienced paintings.

Art Theory

Art History 1

Explores the forms and practices of cultural productions (painting, sculpture, printmaking, architecture, poetry, music) and their interaction with social context, through slide lectures, films, gallery visits and library research. Students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to research and discuss historical events and cultural productions.

Studies In 3D

Mosaic And The 3D Form

Provides an extended exploration of the mosaic medium with an emphasis on 3 dimensional form. Through a variety of sculptural practices students will create a form(s) which will then be the focus of the mosaic surface treatment. Participants will be guided through the whole process with an emphasis placed on the student's unique response to the medium.

Sculpture 1

Provides students with the knowledge and skills required to safely create sculpture using simple processes and basic materials.

Introductory Pottery

Provides the basic skills required to hand build and wheel throw with clay. Participants also develop a fundamental understanding of design principles and are introduced to firing and finishing technology.
